As the next thread in the Threads of Hope series, Sunshine Girl captures the moment we choose courage—to step into the sun and allow warmth and hope to return.

Back to the Sunshine

I stood at the base of the hill

I once hiked without a second thought.

Two years had passed

since I’d last set foot on that trail.

Now it rose before me like a mountain,

daring me to remember who I’d been.

One quiet morning,

I found the courage to take that first step.

Each step felt foreign.

I paused often, breathing hard,

wondering if I’d turned fragile while I wasn’t looking.

But when I finally reached the top,

cool air filled my lungs—

startling and sweet.

I was alive in a way I hadn’t felt for so long.

The next day I climbed again.

And the next.

I wandered beyond the old trail,

finding new paths and small, unexpected landmarks—

tiny bursts of beauty that felt like gifts left just for me.

Soon I reached the summit without stopping.

My breath was strong.

The hill hadn’t changed,

but I had.

Standing in the sunlight,

I realized these hills had waited patiently for my return.

They were more than a trail;

they were a quiet witness to my healing—

an invitation to breathe deeply, to begin again.

Maybe you have a hill waiting too—

one that’s been patient for your return.

Stepping into the Sun

Stepping into the sun

represents the third thread of hope.

It’s a courageous step

that lets warmth seep back in.

It isn’t easy—

yet for the first time, there’s joy in the challenge

and a clear sense of growth

with each step forward.

The sun is about choosing to continue,

letting light reach what was hidden,

and creating again

with clarity and intention.

It’s hope that’s been earned—

not naïve or shallow,

but built by showing up day after day.

Light finds you

when you’re ready to receive.

Sunshine Girl (quilt pattern available now)

The third thread of hope begins here—

a choice to step into the sun.

It takes courage to feel warmth again,

to let light sweep through the places once hidden.

This is where intention takes root.

Each breath, each stitch,

builds on the foundation of a heart that has known breaking.

You are not who you were before.

The pain still visits,

but it no longer defines you.

You felt the spark in Thread Two.

Now you follow it forward—

growing, glowing,

becoming stronger and softer all at once.

This is the gentle power of the sun:

hope earned,

light welcomed,

life begun again.
