Step 3: Fuse the Interfacing

Cut 1/4" from all sides of interfacing to allow for the seam allowance. Iron the lightweight fusible interfacing onto the wrong side of the exterior envelope fabric. This adds stability to the fabric, especially where the labels will be sewn.

Step 4: Add Decorative Stitching

Draw the lines on the envelope as shown in the photo below. Sew along the marked lines to create decorative stitching on the envelope.

Step 5: Create the Letter Label

Cut one piece of fabric measuring 3½" × 3".

Fold the fabric in half, with the right sides together, and sew along the edge, leaving an opening so you can turn the piece right side out.

Turn the label right side out, then press it flat.

Step 6: Cut the Return Address and Stamp Labels

Cut two fabric rectangles, each measuring 2" × 1". These will become the return address and postage stamp labels.

Step 9: Arrange the Labels and Motifs

Arrange the Christmas motifs on the label pieces as shown in the photo below. Once you're happy with the placement, iron them in place.

Step 10: Attach the Labels

Iron the fabric labels into place on the exterior envelope fabric.

Sew around the labels to secure them. Hand stitching adds a lovely personal touch.

Step 11: Add Extra Interfacing (Optional)

If desired, add another piece of fusible interfacing to the back of the exterior fabric to help stabilize the area where you've attached the labels and motifs. Do this before sewing the lining to the envelope.

Important: Check that the interfacing can be fused without damaging your decorative stitching or the iron-on adhesive. I found that mine was affected, so test this on your project before proceeding.

Place the exterior envelope fabric and lining right sides together. Pin or clip around the edges.

Step 13: Trim the Corners

Carefully clip the corners, making sure not to cut through your stitching. This will help the corners lie flat when you turn the envelope right side out.

Step 14: Turn and Press

Turn the envelope right side out through the opening. Gently push out the corners and press the fabric for crisp, neat edges. Fold opening 1/4" and press.

Step 15: Fold the Envelope

Fold the envelope into its finished shape, as shown in the photo below. Press the folds, then pin or clip the sides in place.
